Snuff Reviews

Here is a list of snuffs that Snuff Head and I have tried, along with ratings and comments. The ratings are given in stars and the comments are by their nature very subjective. We all have different tastes. The sign # marks those snuffs which I have tried but not yet rated or commented on. Snuff Head's ratings and comments are preceded by "SH", mine (ERMTony's) by "ET". If anyone else would like to join in on this, give me a shout!

It is beginning to look as though Gebr. Bernard is not finished after all in spite of the announcement of the official closure on May 31st 2008. From what I can glean, a new company, Bernard Schnuftabak GmbH has been set up in the last few days. With a bit of luck we won't be losing all those lovely snuffs!

There are no American snuffs here yet as we can't get them locally! If anyone fancies sending a sample feel free to get in touch.

Scotch	ET	******	Nearly black, moist and medium-coarse. Pure rich tobacco flavour. Very nice!
Scotch Black	ET	*****	Very dark brown, medium dry and fairly coarse. Just tobacco and tasty with it.
SP Scotch	ET	******	Medium fine and medium dry, mid-brown and decent nicotine. Plain tobacco with the faintest hint of spice and citrus.
Wild Duck	SH	******	First An Earthy Taste With A Mild Nose Of Menthol
Yellow Crest	ET	*****	Light brown SP type. Medium mill, medium dry. Nice citrus undertones.

Kailash	SH	***	Very Black In Colour Moist Scented And Slightly Mentholated. Pleasend But Found It Diffiicult To Wash The Blackness From Hankerchief. Reminds Me Of Graphite greese!
Super Chetak	SH	*****	Very Light In Colour, Fine Has A Kick Like A Mule! Very Much Like Our Dry Toasts. Seems Plain At First, Then A Slight Menthol Comes Out
Super Kailash	SH	****	On First Opening The Pack It Had A Smell Of Cow Dung! But On Taking It I Found A Pleasant Menthol That Is Not Over Powering With A Typical Indian Fragrance

Honey Menthol	ET	*****	Nice honey flavour with fairly strong menthol. Good combination. Rich brown, fine and fluffy.

Irish High Toast	SH	****	Prefer F & T's (made by Wilsons)
Irish Dry High Toast No 20	ET	******	Rich brown in colour, less finely milled than many toasts but very tasty. Almost a hint of an SP in the flavour.
Irish High Toast No 22	ET	*******	Lovely stuff! Light in colour, finely milled and very toasty. Possibly my favourite high toast.

My new silver snuff box. Hallmarked Birmingham, 1838 and made by Edward Smith. It's about 75mm long and weighs 83g.
